It has been a long hiatus as I needed to refocus the direction I wanted this blog to take. So you will see (if you are a regular visitor here) that the blog has had a complete makeover. I have a new logo and a fresh branded look and direction. Which leads me into the new focus of this blog.
What direction are you taking your writer career in?
After I ran the series The Many Ways To Skin A Cat last year and had a look at which are this blog’s most popular posts/pages, I realised that I need to go more in the direction of getting SAVVY with the Business end of your manuscript. It is a new world out there in the Publishing Industry and it does not look like it is changing anytime soon. Whether you are an Indie writer (self-published), Hybrid writer (Indie+Traditional), or a Traditionally published writer the message is clear: It is time to get Savvy with the Business end of your manuscript because like it or not the onus is on you to build your brand, promote+market yourself and navigate the waves of the social media/networking world.
So I am going to be directing this focus at the aspects that not every writer wants to think about, some even shun and hide from and others drown in confusion. These are the aspects I am going to be focusing under the PUBLISHING option of this blog.
- Social Media/Networking
- Writing – The business end of your manuscript
For those who don’t know me: I am a writer who is diving into the Indie world this year with the release of two novella series. I have been writing full-time for 18 months and in that time I have hedged all my bets in deciding which way I want to jump into the publishing world. Indie for now is the direction I want to take. But I am also an experienced marketer and regional sales manager with over ten years in the sales+marketing world.
So along with my own adventures in publishing – and every day in this new direction of publishing offers up more than one adventure – and my own first hand experience and knowledge of the sales+marketing world I am excited in the renewed focus for this blog. But you are not only going to hear from me. I have a lot of contacts in both the business world and the writing+publishing world and I am going to be calling on many of these experts to interview and guest-post here.
You will be pleased to know that I am also going to be resuming my two popular interview features:
So watch this space for the new features and posts starting next month.
*Hint, Hint* One of the people who is going to guest post here soon is Rebecca Berto aka NovelGirl. If you have not heard of this girl, then heads up because she has some real insight into the Social Media/Networking aspect which I can’t wait to share with you.
So tell me what features you are dying to know more about in this new and exciting (sometimes scary and overwhelming) Publishing world we find ourselves in?
What’s that I hear you say? It is only the not-to-be-missed FREE Writing+Publishing+Marketing+SocialMedia+Branding Online Conference targeted at helping writers (like you and I) get savvy with the new wave of the publishing world. So this is what I will be attending (if the time zones allow it, being in New Zealand means I am always clocking in midnight hours to be on the same time zone as USA, Canada and Europe – good thing I am an insomniac).
Starts: Tuesday, Feb 19th (today!) at 8am US Eastern Time
Ends: Thursday, Feb 21st at 7pm US Eastern Time Zone
Hurry! You can still register to attend. There is a fantastic line-up of three full days of sessions with some true stars of the Publishing world. Did I mention it’s FREE? You don’t even have to get out of your pjs or leave your house. :D
For those of you that cannot make it, the sessions will all be archived so make sure you still register to access them after the conference at your own leisure. For those of you attending I will see you there!
